Folsom High School Hands4Hope Club is hosting a Valentine's Dance for the Special Education students

By Courtlyn Wells

The Folsom High School Hands4Hope Club is looking forward to hosting a Valentine’s Dance in February for the special education population at Folsom High. The club chose "Children/Youth with Special Needs" as a focus for the 2021-2022 school year and researched organizations such as the Special Olympics and Autism Alliance to find opportunities to serve this community. During this exploration, they heard of a need among some of their Folsom High School peers who find traditional student activities, such as dances, socially challenging. Together, as a club, they decided to host an Inclusion Event and have planned a Valentines Day dance. Students will be personally invited to the dance with special invitations and the night will include food, dancing, and games, with the goal of making everyone feel comfortable, safe, and included.

To help provide decorations and snacks for the dance, the club had a fundraiser at Sourdough & Co. in Folsom on December 8th and raised $175. Throughout the month of January, donors are able to contribute items for the dance by selecting items from the club's Amazon Wishlist drive using the following link: FHS Friends Valentine's Inclusion Dance Fundraiser.
