Hands4Hope Top El Dorado County Nonprofit on Big Day of Giving

Hands4Hope - Youth Making A Difference was one of a record 826 Sacramento-area nonprofit organizations to participate in the Sacramento Region Community Foundation’s Big Day of Giving on Thursday, May 2. The event includes “leaderboards” based on donor participation, and Hands4Hope emerged for the second year in a row as the leading organization based in El Dorado County, and the third overall throughout the region in the “Youth Development” mission category.

“Once again, our community of supporters have chosen to invest in youth and developing the compassionate and thoughtful leaders of tomorrow,” said Jennifer Bassett, Hands4Hope’s Founder & Executive Director. “We are deeply grateful to all who participated in Big Day of Giving 2024 for believing in Hands4Hope’s unique approach to youth development through service learning and leadership.”

The organization set an ambitious goal of raising $75,000 on Big Day of Giving, and was able to exceed that goal to raise $75,454 with 230 donors.

“This year I was able to hear from a representative from Power House Ministries…whose speech fueled my passion for trying to make a positive impact on the lives of my community,” wrote Madison Matlack, a youth Hands4Hope participant who partnered with adult supporter Gordon Helm to create their own fundraising campaign as part of Big Day of Giving 2024. Madison continued, “I wish for other young, driven individuals to be able to hear those stories and learn about the needs within their community. And, with the help of Hands4Hope - Youth Making A Difference, I know the youth will be given opportunities for growth, become empowered to help others and make a lasting impact on our community."

In addition to Madison and Gordon’s campaign, 10 other campaigns were created by participants in Hands4Hope programs or community supporters as part of the Big Day of Giving platform, allowing them to set their own fundraising goals and connect with their own networks to share their Hands4Hope story.

Since launching in 2013, the Sacramento Region Community Foundation’s Big Day of Giving

has raised more than $100 million in unrestricted funds for nonprofit organizations throughout the Greater Sacramento area. This year’s Big Day of Giving involved tens of thousands of donors and a total of more than $13.2 million dollars. The next Big Day of Giving will be held Thursday, May 1, 2025.
