Please give a warm welcome to Sarah McCormick who joins Hands4Hope - Youth Making A Difference as our new Education Program Coordinator - Event Specialist. This is a newly created position that will focus on the Hands4Hope seasonal after-school Committee events, including Empty Bowls Dinner, School Supply Drive, Kids Zone Area, Fall Festival, and Winter Boutique. We are so excited to have Sarah in this role to focus on mentoring youth involved in these dynamic and beloved Hands4Hope events!
Welcome, Sarah! Tell us a little bit about yourself.
I was born in the small city of Jackson, California. When I was two, my family moved to Folsom, where I attended grade school all through community college. I met my husband in 2009 while working at the Folsom Macaroni Grill where I was a strolling singer (back when they had them). It was love at first sight. I moved away from my roots to Reno, as well as to Bakersfield, but always found myself coming back to Folsom. It’s definitely home to me. My husband proposed to me in front of the Sleeping Beauty castle in Disneyland while I was on a college dance team trip. I of course said yes, and we married in 2013. We have two children, Jackson and Charlotte. My kids are my life and I look at them every day asking myself how I got so lucky. After having my children I decided I wanted to finish school and receive my Bachelors. So, in 2019, I walked with my class and received my BA in Liberal Studies from Azusa Pacific University. I am a very tenacious and artsy person. I have been in theater and dance my whole life and have huge love for it. I am constantly curating; whether it’s an event or a craft.
What were you involved with before starting with Hands4Hope - Youth Making A Difference?
I was the Event Director for The Spotlight Company. We managed, planned, staffed, and designed special events for the greater Sacramento, Placer, and El Dorado counties.
What do you like to do in your free time?
I like to sing karaoke as well as craft various projects.
What’s something about you (a fun fact) that not many people know or are surprised to learn?
I have my Cosmetologist license.
What goals do you have for your work with Hands4Hope - Youth Making A Difference?
I am hoping to integrate more digital programs into the special events leadership committees as an additional tool for their success in their respective events. I’d also love to maybe bring in performing arts somehow to the organization in a constructive and learning way as a means for personal growth and development as well as outreach opportunity for the community.
What are you most looking forward to in working with Hands4Hope - Youth Making A Difference?
I am excited to bring my knowledge and work history of special events to the organization and share it ultimately with the student leaders. Soft skills are something that isn’t taught and emphasized enough and I’m looking forward to being able to teach them those skills through such a positive platform.
