Youth Spotlight: Lincoln Garel

Updated: Aug 1

Lincoln Garel joined his Hands4Hope Club at Union Mine High School in September 2022. In such a short period since then, he has taken on leadership positions through his Club, participated with after-school Committees, and has volunteered for many outreach events totaling over 118 hours of service so far!

Staff Mentor Sarah McCormick said, "Lincoln stepped up to the plate when the Kids Zone Committee needed to fill a lead chair position. He had no prior experience with being a lead, but was up for the challenge. I’m proud of his choice to help his team and take on that role for the first time."

Describe your involvement with Hands4Hope - Youth Making A Difference so far.

I first learned about the Union Mine Hands4Hope Club at my school's club fair. I wanted to join because I wanted more community service opportunities, and I also wanted to be a part of another club to help diversify my activities. I joined the Union Mine Hands4Hope Club and have been treasurer for the last two years. I also was on the Kids Zone Committee this year as the Glow Toys Co-Chair.

How have your experiences with Hands4Hope shaped you into the person you are today compared to when you first joined?

All of the projects have taught me how to use time management and be organized while documenting everything. It has also shown me that there are a lot of ways to help in the community and has given me more drive to help with projects and community engagements.

How has Hands4Hope - Youth Making A Difference helped you in school, with your friends and family, and in life?

It has helped me realize that there are people including my friends and family who need help. You just have to look for ways and opportunities to help them.

What has been your favorite memory so far with Hands4Hope - Youth Making A Difference?

My favorite memory is probably getting to watch the fireworks at El Dorado Hills Town Center after working the Kids Zone Area all day. It was a good way to end the day.

What would you tell someone who is considering joining Hands4Hope - Youth Making A Difference?

I would tell them that Hands4Hope is a great club with a lot more engagement opportunities than your typical club.

What activities do you enjoy outside Hands4Hope - Youth Making A Difference?

I enjoy playing football, snowboarding, wrestling, hiking, and just having fun.
